High Risk For Heart Disease In Southwest Ohio
High blood pressure, high cholesterol, and smoking put adults at high risk for heart disease. Cardiovascular disease is one of the top three causes of death in Butler and Warren counties, according to the Greater Dayton Area Hospital Association. Butler County has higher rates of smoking when compared to Ohio and the U.S.
Upgraded Technology For the Cath Lab
Always a leader in cardiac care, we took our heart services to the next level when Atrium Medical Center opened in 2007. Today, residents of Butler, Warren, Preble, and surrounding counties rely on our team for advanced heart care delivered with compassion.
Thousands of patients have benefited from advanced heart care at Atrium. However, the original cath lab technology is aging and needs increased maintenance, and replacement parts are becoming hard to find due to the age of technology. When equipment is being repaired in one of three cath labs, the lab must be closed temporarily, thus reducing patient access to care.
To meet increasing demand efficiently and effectively over the next three years, Atrium plans to:
- Build out a fourth cath lab in existing shell space, planned when the new hospital was built
- Install equipment in the new cath lab
- Enhance technology in the three existing cath labs
The goal is to always have three cath labs available (while one is being upgraded) to meet the high demand for patient care and ensure good access for patients in need. Eventually, future plans call for all four cath labs to be operational.
In addition, we will continue to introduce new technologies and procedures to detect and treat heart diseases and conditions, from blocked arteries to irregular heart rhythms to structural heart problems. We will also build capacity to handle the increased demand.
Estimated Total Cost: $3.8 million
Donors to Atrium Medical Center Foundation will help to fund this major investment with their generous gifts, ensuring our communities will always have access to advanced, lifesaving heart care.
